Thought I would get back to where this blog started……. a little.
Ok, the economy is trashed, the housing market is near almost tanked out(good for buyers, IF ya got some dough), no jobs to be had round haar. I guess with only a week till March, I, like I hope, ya’ll too, am startin’ to feel the first itchin’ of SPRING FEVER! Over the last month or so the seed company catalogs have already arrived and are required outhouse reading as I’ve removed all the m’cycle & girly mags(besides, seed books are softer).
As my wish list grows and the thought of workin in the SUN instead of the snow makes me smile, I think of all the things from the winter chore list I’ll miss./? Like searchin for and draggin out all those logs I will reduce to firewood. The startin’ ordeal of the ol’ tractor, takes 1/2 hour! Hookin up the loggin chains and draggin the logs to a place I can cut n load ’em into my pick-up without gettin stuckin in the muck/snow. Takin the cut rounds to my splitter at the church, splittin all the rounds and carryin’ untold armloads up 20 stairs to the woodbin. Ya did a little penance goin’ to my church
No wonder I had a heart attack. Gonna miss that. The heart attack AND cartin’ wood….. not really. Then theres the de-shoeing ritual, removing and scraping the mud off your boots before ya can go indoors. Gonna miss that too. Actually, no I ain’t! Traipsin’ through the snow, slippin and slidin down the hillside, or the stairs, or the road. Nope, don’t miss anything at all about winter. Except, maybe, the snow scapes. Guess I’m not a young’un anymore I’da been lookin for a place to sled. Someplace dangerous. No more, No sir! It’s that spring fever kickin’ in. I can feel it. All those unfinished chores I started in the fall. The ones that when yore done, ya can look and see, even from a distance, acomplishment. That fence row I started about when the snow started flyin’. That will look great and add security to the farm. I started as late as I did because the ground was soft and easy to dig for fenceposts. Can’t wait to finish that. The compost heap could really use all those leaves I STILL have’nt gathered up. Cuttin’ down the winter wheat and plowin’ it under. Getin’ the garden rows set up(this year east to west instead of southeast to northwest) as the older farmer dudes suggest.Spreadin manure, compost and lime(ahh..perfume to country folk). Even orderin’ those selected seeds feels like I’m accomplishing something. That I’ll be able to see. Eventually. I hope. The garden better grow well as who can afford the produce prices lately? Even at Wally World. You know, grown in the 3rd world someplace, Brazil, Ecuador, somewheres thereabouts. Then theres the other side of spring. The Fun stuff! Life should’nt be a struggle for survival all the time(like in winter!)nor should it be an endless string of chores, regardless of all the accomplishment or not, No, gotta have some fun too! You know, all work and no play makes willyo a dull dog. Seriously tired of bein’ dull. Lookin’ foward to that 1st SPRING BONFIRE!!(be there or be square!) And to all those spring rides on “Road Pig”, travelin’ 100 miles on $5 worth of gas. All those unknown(or renamed) waterin’ holes I’ve not yet discovered. But I will. And those spring berry gatherin walks(black raspberrys will be first to ripen, my fave). A day at the fishin’ hole. The spring colors from all the wild flowers. All the new chicks from Freds chickens runnin’ about. The spring peepers peepin’, the frog pond full of new life. BTW, I’ve already seen some bullfrogs out n about! Sure sign spring is upon us soon? Beats me, but still….. That spring fever. Are ya feelin’ it? I sure am. Gotta go change the oil and charge the battery in “Road Pig”, is there a 70 degree day comin’ next week? Maybe. Maybe not. Best be prepared. While I’m at it, better get those t shirts n shorts out too. Don’t think I’ll need the sandles just yet. Sweats and Carheart jackets.Much as I like all the pockets I sure hate to put away all that stuff. NOT! Change is in the air. And not just a political one neither. This change is GOOD. Soon we’ll see the first ladybugs and know Spring has arrived.

A VERY ugly man walks into the bar with a big grin on his face and orders a draft beer. “What are you so happy about?” asks the barman. “Well, I’ll tell you,” replies the ugly man. “You know, I live by the railroad tracks. Well, on my way home last night, I noticed a young woman tied to the tracks, like in the films. I, of course, went and cut her free and took her back to my place. Anyway, to make a long story short, I scored big time! We made love all night, all over the house. We did everything, in every position imaginable!” “Fantastic!” exclaimed the barman. “You lucky b******, was she pretty?” “Dunno…… …….Never found the head!”
Got that from Clayberry- link on the right somewheres. Great local newspaper and website(and also a radio station!) Give ’em a click….
